Restore the Universal Recommendation for the Meningococcal ACWY Vaccine
Protect Children from Meningococcal Disease
Meningococcal disease is rare—but when it strikes, it is fast, devastating, and often life-altering. The Meningococcal ACWY vaccine has saved lives by preventing four major strains of this disease.
We are calling on the CDC to reinstate the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine as a universally recommended childhood immunization so that every child has equitable access to protection.

Transparency & Purpose Statement

What This Petition Is — and Is Not

This petition is an effort to promote transparent, evidence-based public health policy and informed civic engagement. It is not medical advice, and it does not instruct families on individual healthcare decisions. The petition respectfully urges the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to reconsider the recent removal of the meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) vaccine from the list of universally recommended childhood immunizations and to re-evaluate that decision through established scientific and advisory processes. We recognize that families and healthcare providers make medical decisions based on individual circumstances. Our goal is to ensure that national public health guidance is clear, consistent, and grounded in the best available evidence, so families can make informed choices in consultation with qualified medical professionals. Participation in this petition is entirely voluntary. Individuals are encouraged to review the linked source materials and decide for themselves whether they wish to support this request. This initiative is organized by The PAMAH Foundation, in collaboration with COMO and MRF, as part of a commitment to public education, transparency, and constructive dialogue on public health policy.

Petition

On behalf of the PAMAH Foundation, we respectfully submit this petition urging the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to reinstate the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine as a universally recommended immunization for children.

The PAMAH Foundation advocates for the prevention of meningococcal disease through education, early intervention, and equitable access to life-saving vaccines. Meningococcal disease remains a rare but devastating illness with rapid onset, high mortality, and a significant risk of severe, lifelong complications among survivors, including limb loss, neurological damage, hearing loss, and organ failure.

The Meningococcal ACWY vaccine has a long-standing record of safety and effectiveness in protecting against four major serogroups responsible for invasive meningococcal disease. Universal recommendations historically ensured consistent access, improved vaccination rates, and reduced disparities among children regardless of geography, socioeconomic status, or insurance coverage.

  • The removal of the ACWY vaccine from universal recommendation status creates unintended consequences, including:
  • Decreased vaccination uptake due to confusion or inconsistent provider practices
  • Increased vulnerability among children in under-resourced or underserved communities
  • Missed opportunities for early protection before adolescence and higher-risk exposures
  • Greater burden on families to navigate vaccine access and coverage independently

Meningococcal disease does not discriminate, and prevention should not depend on a child’s zip code, school policy, or a parent’s ability to advocate within a complex healthcare system. Universal recommendations play a critical role in normalizing vaccination, guiding providers, supporting public health infrastructure, and safeguarding children before outbreaks occur.

We respectfully request that the CDC:

  1. Review the current epidemiological data and public health impact related to pediatric meningococcal disease;
  2. Consider the long-term preventive benefits of early, universal immunization with the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine; and
  3. Reinstate the Meningococcal ACWY vaccine as a universally recommended childhood immunization to ensure equitable, consistent protection for all children.

The PAMAH Foundation stands ready to collaborate, share community perspectives, and support efforts that prioritize prevention and protect families from the irreversible consequences of meningococcal disease.

Thank you for your continued leadership in protecting public health and for considering this critical request.

Respectfully,

PAMAH Foundation
